StellaOS

A life in many parts.
A world of your own.

A thought becomes a note. A note becomes a plan. A plan takes time, money and a little persistence. StellaOS gives those connected parts of life a shared home on your Mac.

macOS · Apple Silicon & Intel · Version 0.4.1

Your work. Your life. Your way of making sense of it.

Life is connected.
Your tools can be, too.

A task rarely tells the whole story. There is a reason behind it, a conversation or an idea worth keeping, a date to make room for and a bigger intention it serves. StellaOS is built around keeping that context within reach.

Its philosophy is simple: give each part of life a useful tool, then let those tools share a common language. Move from a note to a goal, from a meal plan to a shopping list, from a habit to the progress it creates. Build an environment that helps you think, act and return to what matters.

Start with the parts you need. Let the rest become useful when you are ready.

Different contexts.
Different Worlds.

A World is a workspace with its own module selection, arrangement and context. Your workday and your personal life can share an app without sharing the same view. Choose what belongs in each World, then make it feel familiar.

Explore a possible World

Give a project its own room.

Start with Tasks, Notes and Calendar. Add Canvas when a plan needs more space, and Goals when the work needs a direction. Keep the tools for this context together.

Capture an idea → develop the context → decide the next action

HomeTasksNotesCalendarCanvasGoals

Make the everyday easier to see.

Put your habits, plans and household lists in one World. Bring in Money, Health or Nutrition when you want more context. A personal workspace can grow as your needs change.

Plan the week → keep up with the day → review what changed

HomeHabitsCalendarListsMoneyHealthNutrition

Keep understanding and remembering close.

Use Notes for ideas, Canvas for their relationships and Words for the things you want to remember. A learning habit can feed a Goal, keeping regular practice connected to a purpose.

Explore a subject → connect the ideas → return for review

A whole toolkit.
One shared foundation.

StellaOS 0.4.1 includes fourteen built-in modules, including Home and Settings. They use the same workspace, navigation and interaction patterns. Enable what fits the World you are building.

The useful part is
what happens between.

Links live alongside the items they connect. Keep a task’s background notes nearby, follow a note’s backlinks or relate a goal to the activity behind it. Some connections do practical work for you.

Meal planShopping listA list you can use
Plan meals in Nutrition, preview the ingredients, then create a real shopping list in Lists. The connection back to the plan stays with it.
Habit check-inLinked goalProgress with context
A habit linked to a goal can contribute progress as you log it. Follow the relationship from the thing you are already looking at.

From an idea to something you can do.

Capture a thought in Notes, develop it in Markdown and link it to related notes with wiki-links. Organize the work in Tasks, with Today, Inbox, Scheduled, Anytime and Someday views. Calendar gives dates a place in the week.

From scattered facts to reusable knowledge.

Folders help you organize notes; links and backlinks help you rediscover them. When something needs deliberate practice, put it in a Words deck and return to a spaced review queue. CSV and tab-separated imports make existing card collections useful here, too.

Some ideas need
a little more room.

Canvas gives thinking a spatial surface. Arrange pins, draw connections, group a subject into frames and move around a board with pan and zoom. Use text, stickies, shapes or freehand marks when a list cannot carry the whole thought.

Start from a template, lay out a mind map or bring a loose collection of ideas into a structure. Boards keep separate explorations from becoming one endless pile.

Money deserves
the bigger picture.

Money is a substantial workspace of its own: accounts and transactions, budgets and recurring payments, assets and liabilities. Keep personal and business activity understandable, then look beyond the next expense.

Know where you stand.

Record income, expenses and transfers against accounts. Organize them with categories, payees and tags. Track credit limits, loans and holdings alongside everyday balances.

Accounts · transactions · liabilities · holdings

Plan around what is coming.

Set budgets and recurring rules. Review a cash-flow forecast built from scheduled payments, and follow net worth, income versus expenses and savings over time.

Budgets · recurring payments · cash-flow forecast

Keep useful records.

Separate personal and business views, review annual or quarterly tax summaries and export transaction records to CSV. Estimates use your configured assumptions; they are not tax filing or financial advice.

Give daily effort
a longer view.

A life is made of projects and repeated days. StellaOS gives both a place: outcomes you are working toward, routines you return to and personal records you want to understand over time.

Goals & habits

Track a count, a duration or a completed outcome. Break a goal into subgoals, connect contributing activity and review the path toward it. Habits support schedules such as selected days or a chosen number of times each week.

A study routine can contribute to a learning goal. A personal check-in can help you see whether the routine still fits the life around it.

Health & nutrition

Record mood, energy, sleep, weight, water, workouts and meals. Keep recipes and food information in Nutrition, arrange a meal plan and turn the ingredients into a shopping list you can edit and check off.

Health can import supported records from an Apple Health export file, showing what will be imported and what is skipped. It is a file import, not a live HealthKit connection.

Personal reference & review

Words makes room for regular learning with flashcard decks and spaced repetition. Biohax organizes reference entries, personal stacks, intake logs and lab readings in a separate module.

Health and Biohax are tools for keeping and reviewing information. They do not diagnose conditions or recommend treatment.

A place for depth.
A quick way through.

You should not have to tour the whole application to catch a thought. StellaOS gives everyday actions short routes, then keeps the deeper tools ready when you need them.

⌘N
Capture a task, note, event or transaction.Review the suggested type before saving.
⌘K
Navigate Worlds, modules and actions.Start with @ to search items across your active tools.
⌘E
Return to recent and pinned items.Pick up a thread without retracing every step.

A Home that earns its space.

Arrange and resize widgets from across the workspace. Bring the tasks, plans and records you want to see into your own daily starting point.

Controls stay near the work.

Simple names can be edited in place. Detailed forms open in a drawer. Pickers stay connected to their controls, so an action keeps its context.

Room to change your mind.

Undo and redo work across supported changes in the current World. Recently Deleted provides a place to restore eligible deleted items; backups give you another recovery tool.

Your working copy.
On your Mac.

The desktop workspace begins with a local SQLite vault. Choose its location during setup and keep using local tools offline. Export, backups and connected services are explicit parts of the experience.

Keep a way out.

Export the active World’s supported module data together or one module at a time. Create a database backup before a major change and restore a saved snapshot when needed. Calendar’s ICS and Words’ CSV/TSV tools provide additional exchange formats.

Choose what you connect.

Account & Sync includes device linking, passkey sign-in and synchronization controls. Connected operation depends on an account, service availability and applicable plan limits. The local workspace is the starting point.

Understand the privacy trade-off.

Account sync encrypts content, but its recovery design gives the StellaOS service an account key that can decrypt synced data. It is not a zero-knowledge service. Choose local-only use when you do not want to place that trust in a sync operator.

Begin with
one useful World.

You do not need to organize everything on day one. Install StellaOS, choose a few modules and give the next thought somewhere to go. The workspace can grow with you.

These builds are not signed or notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper may block the first launch. In About This Mac, check whether your computer lists an Apple chip or an Intel processor. Read the official release and inspect all files.

A gentle first visit.

  1. Choose your context. Name your first World, select the modules you want and choose where the vault lives.
  2. Explore before committing. Enable optional sample data during setup to learn your way around with demo content.
  3. Make it yours. Capture a note, schedule a task and arrange a Home view you want to return to.

Before you settle in

Do I need an account to start?

You can begin with a local World and use the desktop tools offline. An account is relevant when you choose connected features such as account synchronization.

Do I have to use every module?

Choose a World’s tools around its purpose. Home and Settings provide the foundation; related tools may be enabled together so their connections work.

Can I bring existing information?

Calendar supports ICS exchange, Words supports CSV and tab-separated card files, and Health can import supported Apple Health export records. StellaOS also provides its own data import/export and database backups. Check the supported formats in the relevant module before bringing your information across.

Is there an iPhone, Windows or browser download?

The current public release is for Mac, with installers for Apple Silicon and Intel. iPhone, Windows and browser editions are not available from this download page.

What is released, and what is still developing?

Version 0.4.1 includes the tools and workflows described here. Shared Money accounts and further payment-scheduling improvements are in development for a future release.
